D.A.W.N. PHILIPPINES

(A Catalyst of Change)

All About DAWN

DAWN, Philippines is a national coalition of Women and Girls with Disability, which was created during the 1st National Leadership Training in May 2001 in Bolinao, Pangasinan. It was accepted as the 239th grassroot organization under the umbrella of KAMPI.

This coalition of disabled women hopes to become a catalyst of change, that would spearhead efforts for the empowerment of women and girls with disability through access to basic services and the recognition of their human rights and right to rehabilitation, education, employement and economic independence, among others.

ITS OBJECTIVES

1. Women and girls with disabilities in this country must have full access to rehabilitation (medical, social and vocational) as an important step towards the enjoyment of their other basic rights;

2. Women and girl-children with disabilities must have access to education, skills enhancement programs and other opportunities to promote their self-realiance and economic empowerment.

3. Grassroots Organizations under the Katipunan ng Maykapansanan sa Pilipinas, Inc. (KAMPI) must encourage and support women leaders with disabilities to assume leadership positions in their organizations (in the municipal, city, provincial, regional and national levels.)

4. Development programs in all KAMPI affiliate-organizations must include and explicitly address the needs and concerns of women and girls with disabilities.
