All About DAWN
DAWN, Philippines is a national coalition of Women and
Girls with Disability, which was created during the 1st
National Leadership Training in May 2001 in Bolinao,
Pangasinan. It was accepted as the 239th grassroot
organization under the umbrella of KAMPI.
This coalition of disabled women hopes to become a catalyst
of change, that would spearhead efforts for the empowerment
of women and girls with disability through access to basic
services and the recognition of their human rights and right
to rehabilitation, education, employement and economic
independence, among others.
ITS OBJECTIVES
1. Women and girls with disabilities in this country must have
full access to rehabilitation (medical, social and vocational)
as an important step towards the enjoyment of their other
basic rights;
2. Women and girl-children with disabilities must have access to
education, skills enhancement programs and other opportunities
to promote their self-realiance and economic empowerment.
3. Grassroots Organizations under the Katipunan ng Maykapansanan sa
Pilipinas, Inc. (KAMPI) must encourage and support women leaders
with disabilities to assume leadership positions in their
organizations (in the municipal, city, provincial, regional and
national levels.)
4. Development programs in all KAMPI affiliate-organizations must
include and explicitly address the needs and concerns of women
and girls with disabilities.
ROXAS CITY CHAPTER
In December 21, 2001, DAWN, Philippines was initiated in Roxas City,
in the island of Panay.
