Introduction...

The Lack of treatment facilities, motivated, a few likeminded persons with Hemophilia to organise and setup necessary facilities of their own for better care of hemophilics. Hemophilia Society Varanasi Chapter, thus, came into being in 1995 as a charitable, non-government, non-profitable organization of persons with Hemophilia and their sympathisers. The prime objects of the Society are to locate person with Hemophilia, provide them treatment at affordable cost and to educate them about better management of this disorder and the problems arising because of it. The Society, besides being registered under the Societies registration Act and the Income Tax, is also affiliated to World Federation of Hemophilia through Hemophilia Federation India

Functioning of Hemophilia Society Varanasi Chapter...

The Society is managed by an elected body that meets at least once in a month to oversee its working. It maintains high levels of transparency and keeps all its donors and supporters aware of its activities on regular basis. The accounts of the Society are subjected to audit by independent auditors and are placed before its member every year.

Infrastructure of Hemophilia Society Varanasi Chapter...

The diagnostic facilities for hemophilia was available in Institute of Medical Sciences; BHU since 1963 onwards. The patient were treated in the hospital as an emergency cases. The lack of awareness regarding the disease and the cost of treatment were the major hindering factors. In 1995, few motivated persons having deep interest in the management of hemophilia thought of making "Hemophilia Society Varanasi" so that a proper awareness, follow up and counseling may be done to these patients. A project named" DANIDA " has also been completed by Hemophilia Society Varanasi Chapter given by Danish Government. for smooth functioning of office and to maintain proper records. At present our PWHs are getting facilities concerning their diagnosis and treatment at Institute of Medical Sciences, B.H.U. but it is not in a position to provide all necessary treatment viz. councelling follow up &other things as the number of patients has increased much.
