GSPD Womens Wing in the Nothern Regions


MOTTO:Unity We stand Divided We Fall.

Background:

The womens wing of Ghana Society of the physically Disabled (GSPD) was established in 1997.The womens wing is made with physically disabilities(WWPD), and has branches in all the ten regions of Ghana and a National secretariat base in Accra.

Mission Statement:

The womens wing exist to promote the full participation and empowerment of women with physically disabilities at the Regional and District level,of Ghana.

Goals:

The main goal of the womens wing is to empower its members to be productive and contribute positively to the society.

Objectives:

In oder to achieve its goals, the womens wing shall pursue the following objectives:
- To mobilise women with Disability;
- To advocate for the right ofWWPD;
- To raise awareness on the capacities and capabilities of WWPD and for atittudinal change towards WWPD;
- To empower WWPDS through education,job placement,skill training,sport,etc;
-To provide welfare service-mobility gadgets, resettlement support;
- To network with sister organization such as Ghana National Association of the Deaf(GNAD) and the Ghana Association of the Blind(GAB).

Activities:

Our main activities: -Provision of empolment,business management and fundraising skills
-Lobbying and advocating
-Provision of micro-credit
-Publicity and awareness raising
-Sport programmes.
-Outreach programmes
-Organising of workshops e.g Vacational training workshops,workshops on HIV/AIDS,workshops on Leadership training.etc

The Main Achievements of the Organization till now?

The established of womens wing for GSPD was a major
achievement in 1997.Its aim, to build the capacity
of women with physically disabilities in Ghana,is
still very much needed. To date, activity has been
limited by lack of resources and poor reprensentation
within the management structures of the mother organization.
Women, and women with disabilities, are particularly
discriminated against in Ghana-socially,politically,
economically and culturally.

The Main Challenges that the Organization is currently Facing?

To make a strong local lobbying demands the womens wing
(WW)needs:
-An effective local framework of WW branches for the physically disabled
-Co-ordination and co-operation between different WW branches in the district
-Improved collection and distribution of experience between WW branshes
in different districts.
-Improved co-ordination between GSPD WW branches
-Leadership training for key persons
-Financial constraints have restricted GSPD
womens wing ability to support the work in the
Regions and Districts.
-Lack of office equipments
-Lack of funds to attend outreach programmes
-Lack of NGOs
-Lack of sport equipments to improve on our sport activities
