GSPD SYMBOL(Logo)  MOTTO: TOGETHER! We Stand The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled(GSPD)is the national organisation of persons with physical disabilities (PWPDs). Founded in 1980,GSPD has been champoining the cause of its members who are disadvantaged, in terms of access to health, educatin, employment and cultural activities, and this means that many are poor. GSPD is a registered Ghanaian NGO (No.52,418)with branches in all the ten(10)regions of Ghana and in many of the districts. It has a democratic structure with a National Executive Committee elected into office for a four(4)years term by the National Delegates Congress,a body constituted from the regions. GSPD is one of the three national organisations of people with disabilities in Ghana and is a founding memeber of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled, across disability grouping which represents the interests of all persons with disabilities in Ghana. MISSION STATEMENT The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled exists to promote the welfare of its members, by creating awareness of the capacities and capabilities of persons with physical disabilities, and advocating and lobbying for their rights. STRUCTURE / CAPACITY BUILDING & MOBILIZATION GSPD undertakes outreach programmes to mobilise PWPDs to join the society and to strengthen the regional and district branches in leadership and management skills. GSPD has four(4)Wings namely: Women`s Wing, Workers Wing,Youth Wing and Sport Wing. |
YOUTH WING Motto The Youth Alive! The Work Gets Done Background The Youth Wing of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled(GSPD)was established in 2005 due to the cognizance of the empowerment and participation of youth with physical disabilities. Structure The Youth Wing is made up of the youth with physical disabilities between the ages of 15-35. It has brances in all the ten regions of Ghana and a National Secretariat in Accra. Mission Statement The Youth Wing exists to fight for the equal rights, total uplift, social and economic emancipation of the Physical Disabled Youth in Ghana. Goal The main goal of the Youth Wing is to empower its members to be productive and contribute positively to the society. Objectives In order to achieve its goal, the Youth Wing shall pursue the following objectives: -To establish local branches of the Youth Wing -To advocate and lobby for accessibility to institutions -To empower YWPDs through education, job placements,skills training and sports. Activities -Lobbying and advocacy -Publicity and awareness raising -Sports programme -Mobilizatin -Fund raising -Education on current issues.
