The epilepsy support association was set up in 1999,by Agustine Mugarura who is now the national director.

Vision:
A ugandan society in which epilepsy is understood and persons with epilepsy(pwe) are treated with dignity,so that they can excercise their potentials and participate in developmental process.
Mission
To be the leading organisation that empowers pwe to participate in development process, through advocacy,networking and creates awareness.
Coverage
Esau now covers 15 districts of uganda.
These are,Arua,Moyo,Apac,Soroti,Tororo,Jinja,Luweero,Mpigi,Masindi,Hoima,Mbarara,Bushenyi,Ntungamo,Masaka.

Structures: The management system of Esau is rooted down the subcunty level with 7 committee elected by the members of the local branch.
All the 7 committees from different subcounties forms the district assembly.
The district assembly elect 7 people to form the district executive committee and 2 repesentatives to the national general assembly.
The general assembly elect 7 members to form the board of directors.
The committees elected at all branches are,Chairperson,Vice-chairperson,secretary, Trearer,Publicity secrtary, and 2 committee member.

Objectives:
To create a platform for persons with epilepsy to meet regularly and share experiences and voice their needs as a united force with a common goal
. To educate the public especially parents,teachers and the community at large about epilepsy so as to reduce the social stigma attached to epilepsy.
To encourage the formation of support groups through which persons with epilepsy and their relatives can get psychosocial support and counselling.
To encourage persons with epilepsy to engage in income generating activities so as to enable them live economically independent lives and access regular medication.
To work together with other partners and NGO´s to influence policy makers so as to achieve a better understanding of epilepsy.
To empower persons with epilepsy to fully participate in all community aspects.

Formation of support groups,
Capacity building through trainings,
Lobby and advocacy,
Conduct public awareness workshops in schools and community to promote a better understanding of epilepsy.
